Senior women’s football

After much anticipation, 2022 saw our first senior women’s football side come together and play in the Central Victoria Football League Women’s (CVFLW). After a fairytale first season the team won the 2022 CVFLW Premiership Cup and Castlemaine’s Aisling Tupper was awarded ‘Best and Fairest’ for the Grand Final match.

Our Captain, Meg Ginnivan was awarded 2022 League ‘Best and Fairest’ whilst Tia Davidge and Shelby Knoll placed in the top five of the League vote count. All three players were selected for the 2022 CVFLW ‘Team of the Year’.

Our Club has been extremely proud to see the dream of an open age women’s team become a reality. With a demonstrated interest for women’s football in the community including through our Junior Football Club, CFNC is keen to support the continued development of younger players by offering expanded opportunities to play for their home Club.

Castlemaine Football Netball Club has a proven record in turning out high quality women’s players with our Under 18 Youth Girls Team (2013-2017) earning a grand final placing in each participating season, and winning two premierships.

In season 2023, several of our senior players have been selected to VFLW squads:

  • Meg Ginnivan selected to the Southern Saints.

  • Shelby Knoll selected to Casey Demons (AFLW selection to Richmond Tigers)

  • Tia Davidge selected to Essendon.
